Lightning flashes and thunder roars on a dark and stormy night. The audience will be swept away into history and melodrama, with a cast of characters sure to please!
A mysterious Vagabond is swept into the country inn on the blustery night, bringing with him a quick tongue and lively wit. He unleashes his odd questions upon the inn’s proprietor, his household, a strange itinerant woman, and the Governor and his family.
With all the characters caught up in the high sense of drama, there will be lots of shuddering at sounds, cringing at shadows, racing up and down stairs for no discernible reason and crashing about.
Everybody will enjoy this fanciful and quixotic satire, written by early Broadway composer and impresario George M. Cohan, a take-off on the serious melodramas of the 19th and early 20th century.
The Tavern is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
