Aging farmers Morgan and Angus have a precarious balance in their solitary world. Tough and stubborn, Morgan cares for Angus, whose gentle spirit and damaged memory captures the young actor Miles, who is visiting to document and study the rituals and habits of the world of farming.
Reminiscent of the themes of seclusion and caring found in Of Mice and Men, The Drawer Boy is based on an actual 1970’s project, when a group of actors headed into the rural heartland of southern Ontario and, interviewing local farmers and their families, created a landmark Canadian theatrical event, The Farm Show.
As Miles learns the truth of Angus’s injury, and the painful past which Morgan and Angus share, the audience is pulled into this tender, eloquent story about the power of storytelling to interpret reality, and how those stories can transform lives.
